WHO YOU LOVE/ UNCONDITIONALLY By: Alexandrea van Huizen I've been really into this song ever since John Mayer released his album 'Paradise Valley' in August of this year but my gut kept telling me I should only write about it when the music video comes out. After months of nothingness, the wait had finally paid off when John, with the help of his ladylove- Katy Perry, premiered their video on daytime talk show 'Good Morning America' on 17th December and we couldn't be more in love with it! Check it out below! Such an inspiring video as heaven knows this couple has not had it easy. Not long ago, Katy Perry was married to British comedian, Russell Brand while John Mayer just couldn't shake his 'heartbreaker' reputation. I guess that was probably because he was still looking for 'the one'? Finally, against all odds, they've managed to find their way to each other. Are they built to last, only time will tell. The pair have also collaborated on Katy's latest album 'Prism' as John co-wrote the song 'Spiritual' with Katy and also plays guitar for 'It Takes Two'. Check out the video below for 'Unconditionally' which Katy has said was influenced by boyfriend, John Mayer.

By: Alexandrea van Huizen Panic! at the Disco has returned and we can't be more excited. The band will release their fourth studio album titled 'Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die!' on October 8, 2013. However, they've already released two singles off the album, 'Miss Jackson' and 'This is Gospel' and we cannot get enough of them! 'MISS JACKSON' 'Miss Jackson' is the first single off the album which features guest vocals from 'Lolo'. 'Miss Jackson' is titled after Janet Jackson and references her hit song 'Nasty' with the line, 'Miss Jackson, are you nasty?' According to lead singer Brendon Urie: "'Miss Jackson' is about something that actually happened to me when I was younger. I hadn't really talked about it, and I felt that if I didn't, I would keep thinking about it, it would drive me crazy. When I was younger, I would mess around; I'd sleep with one girl one night, sleep with her friend the next night, and not care about how they felt, or how I made them feel. And then it happened to me and I realised 'Wow, that's what that feels like? I feel really shitty.' I knew I had to change, because I didn't want to feel that way again, or make other people feel that way. So I wrote the song. It's based off someone who is real, though I don't think they would know it. They might suspect it, and if they figure it out, I'd love to talk to them about it." 'this is gospel'The second single off the album, 'This is Gospel', was released on August 12, 2013, same day as the music video. In the video, vocalist Brendon Urie is seen to be struggling, trying to break free. There have been talks about this song being written about the alcohol and drug addictions faced by fellow bandmate, Spencer Smith. Whether or not this song was really written about Smith remains a mystery as there have been no official word from the band yet. Like most of P!ATD's songs, both singles come from a very personal place and it is extremely important that fans get to see the real them being portrayed in their videos and from their lyrics. Taken from the band's official website, Urie writes a heartwarming post about fellow band member, Spencer Smith. Urie went on to say, "And I wrote as sincerely and honestly as I could for this album. I didn't want to hold anything back. No one was telling me what I could and couldn't say. This was my diary and the pages were filled with confessions. About everything. About my story. What I had gone through and what I was going through. I kept writing and never really stopped." It's unfortunate that Spencer will not be touring with the band but we wish him well and hope he makes a full recovery soon. I'm sure the fans have not been disappointed by both songs and like us, can't wait for the whole album to be released.
By: Alexandrea van Huizen Singer/songwriter John Mayer recently released his newest single ‘Paper Doll’ off his sixth studio album titled ‘Paradise Valley’ and straightaway rumors started flying across the Internet on whether or not the song was about Mayer’s ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift. In the song, he sings “You’re like 22 girls in one and none of them know what they’re running from. Was it just too far to fall for a little paper doll?” referencing the number 22, which just so happens to be the title of Swift’s newest single. Mayer was pretty tight-lipped, when asked if there is any truth to the rumors on the Today Show last Friday, he had this to say. "Yeah, songwriters write songs because of people, about people. Anything someone else wrote is their reception of a song. I don't get involved with it. It's none of my business." Whether or not the song was indeed written about Taylor Swift is up to you to decide. One thing is for sure though, John Mayer is a very talented songwriter and performer who never seems to let anything negative get to him. It’s refreshing to see the amount of professionalism he has shown throughout his career, especially by coming out the other end much stronger than ever after taking ten months off due to a granuloma on his vocal cords. The official lyric video on youtube for ‘Paper Doll’ stars Johanna Rohrback, creator of the exercise workout called prancercise. The video does seem like a perfect fit because it is just so innocent and somewhat relaxing to watch as Johanna calmly prancercises throughout the song. All in all, it is good to have John Mayer back. Be sure to check out ‘Paradise Valley’, which is set to be released on August 13th 2013. |
